Beach Yoga in Lyme Regis: Everything You Need to Know

Updated: 5d

Some places have a way of helping us slow down. For me, Lyme Regis is one of them.

Beginning the day by the sea is one of the most beautiful ways to experience this coastline. Yoga simply becomes the way we connect with it.

Whether you're visiting for the first time or are lucky enough to call Lyme Regis home, I hope this guide answers your questions and inspires you to experience the coastline in a new way.

Why Practice Yoga on the Beach?

The beach has a way of bringing us into the present moment.

The sound of the waves and the rhythm of the ocean invite us to slow down.

Practising on the sand gently challenges your balance, helping to build strength, stability and body awareness.

The coastline is never the same twice. The tide rises and falls, the wind changes and every sunrise looks a little different. Just like life itself, the beach is always changing, inviting us to move with it rather than against it.

Perhaps my favourite thing about practising by the sea is the sense of joy it brings. Being barefoot on the sand, feeling the sea breeze and moving in the open air reminds us of the simple joy of moving without expectation.

It reminds us that movement doesn't always have to be about achieving more. Sometimes it's enough to simply move, breathe and enjoy being exactly where we are.

Where to Find Us

We meet on the sandy beach in Lyme Regis, opposite Swim Restaurant, just a short walk from the town centre. It's a peaceful spot where the sound of the waves and the first light of the day create the perfect setting to begin the day.

There's nearby parking if you're travelling by car.

If the weather has other plans, we'll move to our beautiful sea-view indoor venue and continue our practice there.

Your First Visit

One of the questions I'm asked most often is,

“I've never done yoga before... can I still come?”

The answer is always yes.

You don't need to be flexible, know the names of the poses or have any previous experience.

Just come with an open mind and a willingness to explore.

Every class is welcoming and inclusive, with options throughout so you can move in a way that feels right for your body, whether you're completely new to yoga or have been practising for years.

My hope is simply that you leave feeling a little more connected than when you arrived.

What to Bring

One of the beautiful things about practising by the sea is its simplicity.

Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in and bring a yoga mat or beach towel to practise on.

Bring a bottle of water and an extra layer, especially on cooler mornings.

Most importantly, come exactly as you are - with an open mind and a sense of curiosity.

When the Weather Changes

One of the joys of practising outdoors is learning to move with nature rather than against it.

If the weather isn't suitable for the beach, we'll simply move to our beautiful sea-view indoor venue and continue our practice there.

A Moment to Take With You

The ocean doesn't ask us to control it.

It simply invites us to move with it.

Perhaps life is asking the same of us.
